We received this photo in September 2025, and had good reason to believe it was of our Police Football Team because it was sent to us by a member of the team, Ian Kittle, although he wasn't sure of the year it was taken, and didn't provide us with a caption of their names.
We wanted to confirm the names of everyone in the photo, and where and when it was taken.
We also believe that one person in the photo made history on 10th August 1964 when, as a young policeman, he played in Bermuda's first ever International football match against Iceland in Reykjavik. We asked if anyone knew his "full name" and would anyone know who won that first international match?
Unfortunately, our comments section isn't working here on our website at the moment, but comments came thick and fast on our ExPo Facebook page. CLICK HERE to view it.
We greatly appreciate the names supplied to us by Terry Cabral, Mike Shaw, and Davie Kerr, and we have now received the definitive list kindly provided to us by Peter Borland, who was a
member of this touring team. Pete's list is as follows:-
Back row from Left to right - Ian Kittle, Brian Adams, Chris Mitchell Paul Deans, Frank Wood, Les Pearson, Kevin Reeves, Roger Brydon, Jack Richards (Coach) Arthur Bean ( who played for Bermuda in Iceland)
Front Row - Neil Morgan, Dave Walker, Peter Borland, Iain Morrison, Ricky Rebello Gilbert Sousa. Pete said the last guy was an American who was on the US Base and wanted to play Soccer and was introduced to the Police team but Pete was sorry he had forgotten his name"
Pete also provided the following additional information, including that the tour took place in 1976. "This picture was just before we played the Toronto Police in a stadium that was 'astro turf' which was quite new in 1976 !! ( I think this game would very well have been May time 1976.)"
"Later in the tour, we played in the New York area, and Arthur Bean and myself went to see the New York Cosmos play. Randy Horton and Sam Nusum played for New York. After the game, Arthur and myself talked our way into the dressing room area below the stands and met Sam Nusum, who was in goal and had played for Bermuda with Arthur."
Further to Pete's list above we've heard from Iain Morrison, also a team member, that the American guy who worked on the US Base was Ron Sadler.
With regard to the guy in the photo who made history in August 1974 by being a member of the first Bermuda National Team to play in an an international match in Reykjavic, Iceland, and that, of course was now retired Sergeant Arthur Headley Bean. We asked for Arthur's "full name" which happens to be "Arthur Headley Love Gladstone Wilberforce Chesterfield Bean" which happens to be the longest NICKNAME on our 'List of Nicknames' CLICK HERE to view our list which includes some really awful nicknames, many of whch were created by big Mike Parris who also happened to have his own - "The Yard of Lard!"
