We recently posted the attached photo to an article about the Late former Sergeant Walter “Walt” Sneddon who is listed as one of the young men in it.
Fortunately, we have a caption with the names of all these young men, but for those of us who are “fairly long in the tooth” we wonder if you can test your memories to see how many of the group you can recognize? How about Arthur Rose, Willie Woods, Mike Burke, Brian Flook, Jeff Sanders, and “Spider” McKenzie?
What we would really like to know is what brought this group together, where were they when the photo was taken (we have a feeling that “Marcus” the dog might provide a clue!). And approximately when was the photo taken?

In an effort to find some answers we have written to Inspector Mike Burke who retired and went to live with his wife Cam and their family to Jersey in the Channel Islands, because Mike is the only one in the group that we know is still with us. Mike wrote a fascinating article for us earlier this year (2025) about his childhood when Jersey and Guernsey became the only islands in the UK invaded and occupied by the Nazis during World War Two.
