Dexter "Fudge" receives his Commissioner's Commendation

It was a real pleasure viewing the following post on the BPS Facebook page about our good friend and fellow colleague Dexter “Fudge” Flood being honoured by Commissioner of Police, with the highest award issued by the BPS which is a Commissioner’s Commendation for his extraordinary and ongoing contribution to the Bermuda Police Service over the past 4 decades. “Fudge” served in the BPS from 1984 to 1989 but he retained a very close connection with the BPS through his passion as a photographer, and he has spent literally thousands of hours attending police-related functions and taking countless photos many of which can be viewed throughout our ExPo website.

Dexter “Fudge” Flood joined the Bermuda Police Force in 1984 as a Police Constable. Although he eventually left policing as a full-time career, he quickly realized how much he loved serving his community and went on to join the Bermuda Reserve Police, where he rose through the ranks to Inspector before eventually retiring.
Throughout his service with the Bermuda Police, Fudge always documented the daily life of an officer through his camera lens. What began as a hobby soon became a passion. Forty years later, he continues to volunteer his time to photograph police parades, promotions, graduations, and other important functions. Many times, we have called on Fudge at the very last moment and, without hesitation, he would jump on his bike and come out to capture the moments we needed preserved.
Last Friday, Fudge was summoned to Hamilton Police Station, thinking he was there to capture a moment, not realizing that he was the moment.
He walked into a Senior Leadership Briefing with his camera in hand, expecting another assignment. Before long, however, he realized this occasion was not about taking photographs, but about the Bermuda Police Service reflecting on his extraordinary contribution and honouring him with the highest award issued by the Bermuda Police Service, the Commissioner’s Commendation.

Fudge is more than deserving of this recognition. Through his lens, he has captured the history, people, and milestones of the Bermuda Police Service for over four decades, ensuring that our story will be preserved for generations to come.
