Young P.C. Raimondo "Rai" Harrison

We  have just received the sad news that our dear friend and colleague Raimondo “Rai” Harrison has  passed away in hospital.  The news was received from Rai’s family on 9th October 2026 by fellow former Staffordshire County and Bermuda Police officer  Iain Morrison.

We had somewhat lost contact with Rai until Steve Taylor located Rai and went to visit him in a care home in Stone, Staffordshire on 30th July this year as we reported in our “Keeping in Touch” column. CLICK HERE to view the article in our ExPo website.

Rai served in he Bermuda Police from 1979-1993 and after  being initially posted to Central (Uniform) for 2 years he transferred to Operations (Traffic) for a further 2 years before moving to CID where he spent most of the rest of his career.

A first class detective, Rai received two exceptional commendations. The first, in 1986,  was “For initiative and detective ability on a long and successful investigation resulting in the arrest and conviction of a man in the Supreme Court for (a) Attempted murder of an off-duty police officer with the use of a firearm, and (b) Causing grievous bodily harm to a civilian, also with the use of a firearm. " The man was subsequently sentenced in the Supreme Court to a total of 3 years in prison.

The second commendation, in April 1987, was for “Detective ability and skilful interrogation in the investigation and subsequent conviction of two men on charges of making petrol bombs and attempted arson of the residence of the Commissioner of Police while the Commissioner was in residence." Both men were sentenced in Supreme Court to long periods of imprisonment.

 Prospect Football Team

Rai was also a keen sportsman who played football for Prospect Football Team, and was also a keen boxer who fought in the annual Police Boxing Nights and was a regular member  of the police boxing team.
