Premier David Burt presents the 2026-2027 Budget (Photograph by Akil Simmons)
During today's Budget Speech as reported in the Royal Gazette, Premier Burt made the following statement with regard to our Police Service Pensions, "Public service pensions have been frozen since 2014. That is more than a decade in which the cost of living has moved, but pension benefits have not." Accordingly, the Government will provide a one-time 10 per cent increase for public sector retirees. This will be legislated later this year, and increases will be effective from 1 April.
It has been a long time coming but our Police (and all Pubic Service) pensions had remained frozen since 2014, much to the concern of all of our members receiving police pensions. As you can see from the above statement by the Premier has given an assurance that the legislation will be passed later in the year, but the Premier has also given an assurance that the 10 percent one-time increase will be effective from 1st April.
