Mr. Weatherman explaining Humberto (right) and Imelda (left)

After a narrow miss from the first major hurricane of the season “Hurricane Erin” we’ve just now had the possibility of a double whammy, with Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda  both threatening the Island.

The biggest potential threat seemed to be from “Humberto” which was a Cat 2 as it approached Bermuda.  Fortunately,  although we’re now experiencing strong winds it appears that "Humberto" - the nasty purple and red blob above - is sliding past us to our west before it makes a turn eastward.

The slightly less powerful Hurricane Imelda (the blob on the left) seems at this point (early afternoon on 30th September) to be headed straight for us, and as reported in this morning’s Royal Gazette its “expected to pass almost 29 miles – or directly over – the Island as a Cat 2 hurricane tomorrow…  "late Wednesday night into Thursday morning according to the Bermuda Weather Service. "

The present situation is certainly better than it was  a few days ago, when there was a possibility of both these hurricanes heading straight for us, but we can still expect hurricane force winds from "Imelda" to have a substantial impact on the Island.
