We received an email on 7th May 2015, from Gill Matthews, a Police Staff Investigator with the Cleveland Police in England, making enquiries to locate Pete Clemmet who had served here in the Bermuda Police from October 1970 - November 1973, after which he returned to Cleveland and opened a photography business. Ms. Matthews was aware that Peter eventually left the UK and settled in Florida where he also operated a photographic business together with his son Lewis.
Ms. Matthews was investigating an old case dating back to the 1970’s and gave an assurance that Peter was not a suspect in any way, but might be able to assist in providing useful information in the case.
It didn’t take long to make contact with Pete on Skype to advise him of the enquiry, and also to catch up on how he’s doing. Skype really is an amazing piece of technology!
Now semi-retired he’s living in Boca Raton, Florida, and is happily married to his second wife, while his son, Lewis, is now living and working in Newcastle back in the UK.
Pete explained how his 5 years in the Bermuda Police had a very significant impact on his life because after spending a couple of years in uniform he was transferred to CRO where he was introduced to photography – and obviously took to it because after 5 years here he returned to the UK and set up his own photography business, eventually moving to Florida to set up another photographic business which proved very successful.
And as for the police enquiry, Ms Matthews was investigating a series of criminal complaints made against a former employee of Pete’s and wanted to confirm when the guy had been employed by him.
It was great catching up with Peter who worked for about a year in Traffic during my time as a Sergeant there. For anyone wanting to catch up with him we have his email address and Skype address. He continues to have very fond memories of his time in Bermuda.
