Jack Richards  -   Passing of a Good Friend

We regret to advise of the sad news that Jack Richards just passed away in England.

Jack came to Bermuda in 1973 working for Public Works Department as the Waterworks Superintendent at Prospect. It didn’t him long to discover the PRC after being introduced by the late Shirley Harney. Jack  played for Prospect in the Commercial League in 1973/74 then moved on to the Police Team, first as a player and then as coach.  He was also involved as a coach for Hotels International, and was an avid fan of Hereford United Football Club.

Jack made many close friendships while in Bermuda, none closer than Gerry Lyons.  Jack was Best Man at Gerry’s marriage to Shina (nee Davidson) in April 1987.

Gerry informs us that Jack was married to Beryl and they had three children, Tina, Gary and Cherise.  They left Bermuda in 1979 and returned to England where Jack resumed his career in waterworks engineering in Peterborough. Unfortunately, he and  Beryl divorced and Bery sadly passed away several years ago.

Some years later Jack met and married Sheila and set up home in Cromer, Norwich. He retired there and remained there until his untimely passing on 6th January.

Jack was regularly in touch with Brian and Lyn Adams in Bermuda, and he and Sheila stayed with them in St. David’s during his last visit here in 2008.

His last contact with Bermudians was in October 2013  when he was on a cruise with Campbell and Judy Simons and Vincent Hollinsid and his wife.

Funeral arrangements are tentatively set for Monday 27th January in Cromer, Norwich. We will publish more details when we receive the information.
