Annual Memorial Service – 2019
Our annual Memorial Service was held on a lovely afternoon at the Police Cemetery on Sunday 6th October 2019. Dignatories in attendance H.E. the Governor, Mr. John Rankin CMG, Deputy Governor, Minister of National Security The Hon Wayne Caines JP, MP, , U.S. Consul General Mrs Constance M Dierman, Commissioner of Police Mr. Stephen Corbishley, Human Resources Manager Michael Trott, Commandant of the Reserve Police Ms. Sandra Beach, C.O. of the Royal Bermuda Regiment Lt. Col. David Curley, ED, and President of the Bermuda Ex-Police Officers Association Mr. Calvin Smith.
The Service was very well attended by our former and retired police officers, plus family members and friends of those who are no longer with us.
Following a procession and posting of the Police Colours, Chaplain Dr. Kevin Santucci gave an opening prayer.
Commissioner Corbishley welcomed all those present and asked for a moment of silence after which Mr. Neilson DeGraff, bugler for the Somerset Brigade Ban played the Last Post.
Assistant Commissioner Martin Weekes read out the Roll Call of those former Bermuda Police Officers, Reserve Police Officers and Bermuda Police Staff who have died during the past 2 years (see the list in the Service programme below). The dignatories layed wreaths at the memorial, and family members were also invited to kay wreaths or flowres in memory of their loved ones.
The Service concluded with a closing prayer from Rev. Santucci and Reveille played by bugler Neilson DeGraff.
Attendees and participants were invited back to the Police Recreation Club for refreshments in the main hall which provided a great opportunity for old friends and families to gather and reminisce.
The reception was also very well attended and there was a great atmosphere at the Police Recreation Club throughout this event.
This Memorial Service, which is held at the culmination of Police Week , has become a most meaningful event which has very significant meaning to all those in attendance who have lost family members and friends. The Bermuda Ex-Police Officers Association is most grateful for the success and smooth running
