Our annual Summer BBQ was held at the Police Club on 11th July 2015 and was a great success with over 50 friends and colleagues in attendance despite it being a wet, windswept evening which forced us to have to move inside in the the PRC main hall. We were joined by Clive and Jenny Owen who returned to the Island for a visit.
We held our Annual Reception for the start of 2016 in January at the Officers Mess, Prospect. This is a fairly new venue and turned out to be ideal for our reception which was attended by Commissionewr Michael DeSila and his wife Merila. The Mess was packed for the occasion, and at one point Commissioner DeSilva stood with quite a large group of our former officers and we wonder if you would know what they all had in common apart from all being police officers or ex-police officers. A great time was had by all.
We held our annual ExPo Cocktail Reception on Saturday 21st January 2017 at the Officers Mess where a good time was had by all. Unfortunately, Commissioner Michael DeSilva was unable to attend but he sent his best regards to the Assocition members.
We held our Annual Summer BBQ at the Police Club on Saturday 15th September 2018, and despite the best efforts of the rain we were able to hold this popular events in the PRC Main Hall where it was a great success, with over 60 in attendance, and live music by the Travellers taking us back in time - to our time!
Our annual ExPo cocktail reception was held at the new Officers Mess at Prospect (formerly the Reserve Police HQ) on 7th February 2015, and was a great success with some 70 people in attendance, including COP Michael DeSilva, DCOP Paul Wright and their wives, along with former and retired police officers with spouses and friends.
Despite torrential rain throughout the day, the Annual Police Week Memorial Service and ExPo BBQ were held on Sunday 1st October 2017. The venue had to be changed at the last minute to the Police Club due to bad weather, and both the Memorial Service and subsequent BBQ, hosted by Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva, went off without a hitch and was very well attended. The visiting Halton Police Service Pipes and Drums Band from Ontario performed during the event along with the Island Pipe Band and the Somerset Brigade Band.
Our Annual ExPo Reception was held at the Officers Mess, Prospect, on Saturday 16th January 2020, and was very successful with over 50 retired and former officers with spouses, widows and friends present. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening catching up with old friends and colleagues, and perhaps a little gossiping about those who were not present!
Our Annual ExPo was held at the Police Recreation Club on 25thFebruary 2023 after a long period of very little activity due to the Covid pandemic. It was a great relief to finally be able to hold a social function with no health-related restrictions and we were delighted to have over 50 people in attendance. The reception was preceded by our AGM at which our current committee members were re-elected en-bloc with the addition of Terry Maxwell as Vice President. See separate report regarding the AGM. We are very fortunate to have Cal Smith continuing as President, and we look forward to holding more social events later in the year including our annual Summer BBQ.
We held our annual ExPo BBQ at the Police Recreation Club on Saturday 22nd July 2023, with no thanks to the weather! Unfortunately, we endured very heavy rain during the day so our event had to be moved into the Main Hall of the PRC.
The event was well attended but without some of our regular attendees, a few of whom were on summer vacation, which seemed to include a few taking holidays on cruise ships! We should start an ExPo blog where our cruise ship ‘experts’ can pass on advice and critiques for the benefit of those who have yet to take the plunge!
Those in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the evening, the food, and the camaraderie. Sadly, we were missing our good friend and very long-term member of our ExPo Committee, Reese Bartley, who had been assisting in organizing our social functions for many years. It was good to see that Reese’s wife Gilda was in attendance and we hope to see her for many more.
Commissioner of Police, Michael DeSilva, hosted the annual Commissioner's New Year's Day party on Thursday 1st January 2015. For the first time this party was held at the Botanical Gardens Hall due to the fact that damage had been sustained to the PRC roof during Hurricanes Fay and Gonsalvo, and the change of venue was perfect. The party was a great success, and our gallery shows most of the retired and former police officers who were in attendance.
These photographs were taken at a first class Bermuda Reunion organized by Bill Nixon and held at The Ramada Inn, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, on 20th and 21st September 2014. The reunion was very well attended by a group of former police officers and civilans who had worked in Bermuda, together with their spouses. Needless to say, the event was a great success from start to finish. CLICK HERE for a report on the reunion in our "Interesting Articles" column.
Our Annual Bermuda Ex-Police Officers cocktail reception was held at the Officers Mess on Saturday 25th January 2014, and was without doubt one of the best we have ever held. We were delighted to have both Commissioner Michael DeSilva and ACOP Paul Wright in attendance together with over 50 of our members, wives and friends. The food was excellent and the camaraderie was second to none. Here are some photos of the event, with apologies to those we missed with the camera.
Bermie Expo members and friends gathered at the Officers Mess, Prospect, on Saturday 19th January for our annual Cocktail Reception. Also in attendance was Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva, and a good evening was had by all.

These photos were taken at our annual Summer BQ held on Saturday 11th August 2012 on the patio at the PRC attended by some 60 former colleagues and friends.
Photographs of our annual ExPo Cocktail Reception held in January 2012 at the Senior Officers Mess, Prospect, courtesy of the Commissioner and Senior Officers. Always a popular event, this year we enjoyed a slide show of "historical" photos collected for this website.
These photos were taken at our 2011 Summer BBQ held on the patio at the Police Recreation Club, where we enjoyed good food, good drink, good music (from our era) and excellent company.
These photographs were taken at our annual ExPo Cocktail Reception held in January 2011, at the Senior Officers Mess at Prospect, which is kindly made available to us by the Commissioner and Senior Officers. It is an ideal venue for this function.
One of the most popular social events on our calendar is our Annual Summer BBQ held on the outside patio at the Police Recreation Club. We usually host around 70 former officers and their significant others and friends.
During Police Week in October 2009, the BPS kindly invited members of the Ex-Police Officers Association and their families to a Memorial Service for our departed colleagues at the Police Cemetery, Prospect, followed by a BBQ on the outside patio at the Police Recreation Club. This has now become an annual event and is held during Police Week which is usually scheduled during the first week in October.
Grant and Gavin Kennedy kindly hosted a "Do" in memory of their dad, Alan, at the Officers Mess on Thursday 9th February 2017, attended by many of Alan's old friends and colleagues from the Bermuda Police Service. Also in attendance was Alan's close and longtime friend, Chief Tom Tessaro (retired) of the Fort Lee Police Department who flew to Bermuda specially to be with Grant and Gavin and their family at this time. As you can see from the photos, everyone came along to pay their respects to Alan but it was also a time to enjoy remininiscing about the good old days shared with him.
The annual Ex-Bobbies Bash was held at Mad Hatters Restaurant at the Mariners Club on Thursday 7th December 2017. Thirty-seven ex-bobbies gathered at Mad Hatters for an excellent Christmas lunch organized by Dave Cook and Billy Butterworth. This popular event is great for renewing camaraderie amongst our former police officers and judging from the noise level alone it was a great success enjoyed by all those present.
Our Annual ExPo Reception was held at the Officers Mess, Prospect, on Saturday 3rd February 2018, and was one of the most successfuld events we have ever held with some 83 retired and former officers with spouses, widows and friends present. Despite rather cold weather (by Bermuda standards) we had a lovely evening during which a good time was had by all.
DCOP Paul Wright's retirement party was held in a packed main hall at the Police Recreation Club on Friday 2nd November 2019, attended by a host of dignatories, including HE The Governor, The Minister and Shadow Minister of Justice, members of the Judiciary, the Bermuda Regiment, HM Customs, the Commissioner of Police and members of all ranks of the BPS, along with members of ExPo, and family and friends of Paul and his wife Angela. The evening was a resounding success.
