We have received the sad news that former P.C. Kenneth "Vendon" Archer who served here in the Bermuda Police from May 1978 - August 1993, died on 19th May 2017 and his funeral was held on 6th June at St. Luke's Church in Staining. Vendon attended Training Course #23 in the summer of 1978, and served here for 15 years before resigning and leaving with his wife to return to the UK,

Editors note -  Unfortunately,  we cannot find Vendon's personnel file at Police HQ so we cannot at this point give any details of where he served whilst here in Bermuda.  It would be most appreciated if any of his former colleagues and friends could provide details to us, plus any information about what he did after leaving the Island.

Hi. Lovely to read your messages. So many names from the past and good memories. When I first came out to Bermuda we lived in St David's and Vendon was a parish constable in the St George's and St David's area. From there he went to work out of St George's then onto Prospect in CID. We left for the UK in 1993 where he opened up his own successful private investigation business called Fylde Coast Investigations. Wishing you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. JanetEditors note - Many, many thanks for writing to us Janet. We wish you and your family a happier and a healthy New Yea in 2018.

So sad to hear of Vendon's passing. I had the pleasure of knowing him whilst at St George in 84-86. He made all the new recruits from the UK welcome. I remember meeting up with him in Blackpool after leaving Bermuda. A genuinely nice guy. Thoughts go to his family.

i left the BPS in 1992, and Vendon was still there when I left, At CRO. I'm not sure where he went from there. He visited me in Newlyn, Penzance in 1999, with his wife and daughter and then lost touch.Sobering thought that Brian Callaghan, Andy Hall and now Vendon are gone. A character ..

Hola I note that only 5 members are listed in the bottom row in the T/school photo while there are 6 shown in the photo. Is the missing name AJ Smith From a blistering hot Tucson Az.Editors note - They must have eagles in that blistering hot Tucson, Arizona, sun because you would need "eagle eyes" to spot that mistake! Well done Davie. It is indeed Sgt Anthony Tony Smith who is missing from the original caption under Traing Course #23 photo. What are you doing in Tucson, Arizona? Let us know for our "Keeping in Touch" column.

Remember Vendon from my time serving and living in St. George. He and his wife were good friends to me along with half of St. George and St. Davids.Spent many a time playing Euchre with him and Gordon Farquhar, and Bugzie Pugh et al at the PRC in St. George and St. Davids Cricket Club.If memory serves me he did a while as Parish Constable also in ECID. So sad to hear of Vendon's passing. He was certainly a character and spent many hours at his and his lovely wife's Apt in St. Georges enjoying Bar-B-Q cookouts.Don't remember too much about his postings, but think he spent most of his time attached to St. Echo and later transferred to S.P where he eventually resigned from.Could be wrong, others will have a better recollection.
