...cont....I think Bermuda has a well-organized and most efficient Police Force, and my colleague and I were very grateful to the Commissioner, Mr. George Duckett, who insured that every aid was available when required. “I felt that during the inquiry we all worked together as a team, not as individuals.”Editors note - Agreed George. We have had some exceptionally talented people serve in the Bermuda Police over the years.

Belvin was arrested and charged with Jean's murder during the first week of September 1971. His trial commenced in mid-January 1972 and he was sentenced to death on the 26th January, 1972 (sentence later commuted to one of life imprisonment). On a balance of probabilities I think this photo was most likely taken at the Officer's Mess at Prospect on the night of 26 or 27 January 1972. Scotland Yard never 'hung around' at the conclusion of a case and were always anxious to return to home base.Prior to their departure after the trial Scotland Yard officers Detective Chief Superintendent Bill Wright and Detective Sergeant Basil Haddrell thanked everyone who had co-operated in the murder investigation.Said Mr. Wright, “In particular, I very much appreciated the efforts of the local Police.Editors note - Many thanks George. Never thought we might narrow down when this was taken to within a couple of days.

I base my date guess on the fact that George Duckett took over as CoP in late '69 and was assassinated in Sep '72, so it had to be between those dates!Editors note - Agreed. Both Terry and Moby narrowed it down to the Jean Burrows murder in July 1971.

Crikey, some heavy brass there!"To the best of my knowledge and belief, Your Worship", back from L:-Ian Morrison, Harry Lister, Tommy Doyle, Hubert Simmons, Frank "Gruff" Hammond, George Duckett, Basil Haddrell (Scotland Yard), Nobby Clarke, Bill Wright (Scotland Yard), Leon Bean, Joe Nixon, Joe Colton, Pete Stubbs, Gerry Harvey.Front from L:- Clive Donald, John Mullan, Ernie Moniz, Jim McMaster, Doug "Red" Hebberd, Dave Parsons, Les Waddell.I can only assume that this was the officers and the two Scotland Yard men during the first visit of the latter to Bermuda on a particular murder case, and I'd date it '71-ish.Editors note - spot on Davie. Not certain of the date but I'm sure you're close. Basil and Bill Wright must have been out here to help investigate a murder and I'm wondering which would that would have been.
