Here is an update on the following activities conducted as President on your behalf:-
· Continue to progress work started with Government re: no increase in superannuation pensions for our members;
· Continue (ongoing) new members drive;
· Opening of New Police Museum – Prospect (see article at http://expobermuda.com/index.php/lia/777-opening-of-bps-museum
· John Skinner’s ongoing work on Officer/Police Staff spreadsheets which includes compiling an extensive list of police officers who have served in the Bermuda Police during the years 1879-1979
· Approval granted for the use of the Officers Mess for Annual New Year’s Celebration, Saturday 18 January 2020.
· Donated Christmas Food Hamper to Brian Robinson and Family – as you may be aware Brian recently returned from Hospital in Boston. His treatment is ongoing and he is due to return for more treatment early next year.
· Visited Jimmy Costello in KEMH – he continues to make progress from his episode; however, other complications have resulted in him remaining in KEMH. He is hopeful of a 28 December release from the hospital. For further report on several of our members health issues see article at http://expobermuda.com/index.php/latest-news/803-updates-on-health-issues
· Former Commissioner George Jackson is making remarkable progress and is now mobile with the use of a cane. He is due to be released from the care of the rehab facility, however, he will require continued rehabilitation. A possible release date of 23 December 2019 has been suggested.
· Former Inspector Harold Beckles was involved in a road traffic collision resulting in him being airlifted to Boston for advanced treatment. He remains there under specialist treatment. His family requested assistance with him changing his insurance back to GEHI. Approval has been granted, however, there is a six month wait period for enrolment. I am assisting with the appeal process to have that period shortened (three months). Harold will require 24 hour care and specialist rehabilitation for his injuries.
