We are sorry to pass on the sad news that our friend and former colleague, Eddie Spencer, died in Scotland on Monday 25th July after a long illness.
Eddie was born and raised in St. Helen's, Merseyside and came out to join the Bermuda Police in May 1978. He served in Central (Uniform) for a year before being transferred to Operations (Traffic). Eddie was posted to "E" Department in 1981, and served there until he left the Service in March 1988.
After leaving the Bermuda Polic, Eddie set up a company selling Stiebel water heaters. As those who knew Eddie will be aware he had a serious bout with cancer many years ago but after years of intensive treatment he went into remission. He and his first wife, Lynn (Green) divorced and Eddie left the Island and settled in Glasgow with his Glaswegian second wife Anne. Unfortunately, Eddie's cancer returned quite recently and Anne has been taking wonderful care of him. He suffered a major setback last week, and his daughter Amanda left Bermuda on Sunday evening heading for Glasgow, but her father had passed away before she arrived.
We understand that a funeral service will be held on 4th August in Glasgow, and we will post details as we receive them. In the meantime we send our sincere condolences to Anne, Amanda and the Spencer family. We have also heard that Anne intends to come to Bermuda next year with Eddie's ashes.
