BPS Commemorative Coin
We have received the following letter from Chief Inspector Calvin Smith advising us that the Bermuda Police Service has commissioned a commemorative coin from the Royal Mint to celebrate the 135th Anniversary of the Bermuda Police. This will be a strictly limited issue. The letter indicates that the cost of the commemorative coin would likely be in the region of $100 - $125 but we received a further update below indicating that the cost will be $105 because of the good response.
Dear Sirs/Madams,
BPS 135th Anniversary Commemorative Silver Coin
On October 4th to 11th 2014, the Bermuda Police Service will celebrate our 135th Anniversary. As a part of this celebration the Commissioner of Police, Michael A. DeSilva has approved The Royal Mint, UK to produce a commemorative silver piece.
The obverse of this piece will feature a map of Bermuda and/or an image of the “Bobby Helmet”. The reverse will feature our iconic “Bird Cage” with an image of a Police Officer and the date 1879 – 2014.
This commemorative coin will be packed in a high quality clear capsule followed by a presentation gift box, accompanied by a certificate authenticating the piece and stating the reason for its striking.
There will be a limited number (100-150) of the piece minted and depending on the initial interest of persons expressing a desire to purchase one; the purchase price will be in the range of $100 - $125.
To that end I am requesting that anyone interested in purchasing a commemorative coin, should reply to me via this medium indicating your intention. To ensure that the piece is completed and delivered for our October 2014 Police Week Celebrations, your immediate attention is requested in this matter.
Additionally, The Royal mint will not release this “unique” design of the piece prior to receiving “full” payment.
The design draft will then be sent to us for amendment and/or approval before the piece is struck and the order complete.
The Planning Team are certain that The Royal Mint, one of the World’s leading manufacturers of coins and medals, will prepare a piece that will be fitting of the occasion and last for generations to come. Their work can be viewed at royalmint.com or at the Bermuda Monetary Authority Show Room, BMA House, 43 Victoria Street, Hamilton.
Sincerely.
Chief Inspector 454 Calvin Smith
