With all the dreadful weather we’re hearing about across the U.S. and  Canada, over in the UK and in Europe, it’s hard to believe that here in Bermuda we can genuinely complain about our winter weather, but would you believe it,  the headline news in today’s Royal Gazette summed up our weekend – “Near-record chill hits island as storm puts thousands in the dark”.

The Royal Gazette reported that, “Thousands lost power as storm-force winds also delivered a plunge to unprecedented, near-record low temperatures over the weekend, with the deepest chill witnessed on the island in decades.”

“The BWS report stated that recent conditions, barely weaker than Category 1 hurricanes that carry winds of between 74 and 95mph, “sent temperatures plummeting to a near-record daily low of 45.1 degrees Fahrenheit, only just over half a degree shy of the all-time record low for Bermuda”.

“The temperature dropped to an even cooler 44.1F at 2.30am  on Sunday, slightly warmer than the record of 43.3 degrees reported on February 26, 1993.”

Not only did we lose power but much of the Island lost internet for almost two days.

Although we "do" snow in Bermuda we have had a number of  hail storms during the past few days, and according to some sources our temperature when factoring in the wind chill has dipped down to the mid-30’s.  Brrrrr!
