Young P.C. Aaron Sabir (Scott)

We were deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of our good friend and former colleague, Aaron Sabir (formerly Scott) at the age of 88. Aaron served in the Bermuda Police for 14 years from August 1959 until September 1973.  Aaron was posted to Central Division, Hamilton, for a short spell before transferring to Western Division (Somerset).  In 1965 Aaron was posted to Western CID as an Aide before being appointed as a detective in Western Division. He transferred to Central CID in  1970 at which time he attended a CID Course in London, England. While in CID Aaron received two Commendations for excellent  investigations resulting in successful convictions.

Aaron was an outstanding sportsman, who played for our Police teams at both cricket and football, and also represented Somerset Cricket in Cup Match, making his debut at the annual Classic in 1957. The photo below shows our Police Cricket Team in 1962, when we had possibly our strongest ever team. On the day this photo was taken our team played against and were victorious over Devonshire Recreation Club by 10 wickets.  DRC batted first and scored 59 all out.The Police opening batsmen, believed to be Neville Darrell and Jim Lyons, knocked off the runs without losing a wicket.
