This was not the best quality photo we have ever published, and it may not have been the finest team the Bermuda Police has ever produced, but it was a team with a mascot!  We wanted to know where and when it was taken, who is in the team, what was the occasion -  and what is the name of the dog?

We got an excellent response with Terry Cabral providing most of the names, including "Turk" the mascot owned by Dave Chew, with a little extra help from John Headey who is on "cloud 9" these days with his home team Huddersfield playing in the Premier Division, and from Paul Hendricks.  

It must be noted, however,  that no-one seemed to have any recollection of when this match was played, who it was played against, and what the score was!  Yes, it was played down east on the RAA field, and that may explain the lack of recollection!

Editors note  -   We are now aware that this dynamic team comprised married men from Eastern Division who played in a match against single men from Eastern Division.  We will be soon be publishing the Singlemen's team in our Who, Where and When column. The match was reported in the Winter 1974 edition of the Police Magazine.

Who was in the singles team? I believe I took part in this or other married v singles games.Editors note - I really wondered about a "singles" team. Is that a team of single men?

Ah Wainright Tavern.You and Ronnie (after an invite to reside from said Ronnie) made history with the only unofficial Tavern that was open until sundown and or the front door was not locked.The thousands of people that came in especially BOAC and the locals also.Blessed that I have memories of those 70's years and "who the hell are you" as we walked out as they came in.You had to be there.Memories.Ps. We always left a few bucks in the jar

Good try Terry. Front left is Ardon (Arden?) Cato.I think Dave Chew was the goalkeeper, hence the different kit. Kees van Beelen (sp?) according to PaulHendrick was - he thinks - a sea-going Officer, possibly even a skipper. He was an associate member of the PRC, and a regular in the bar. Likewise Jimmy Copeland who was a teacher at the adjacent secondary school and a Scottish ex pro footballer . Handy man to have in the side! I recall a similar fixture played on the ‘official’ St George’s soccer field. Photo anyone ?Editors note - I still have vivid memories of Jimmy Copeland playing in the Bermuda National Team against Celtic (yes - the Celtic) back in 1966 at Devonshire Rec. I believe Jimmy used to play for Kilmarnock before he came out to Bermuda and he knew some of the Celtic players A couple of our lads up at the Police Club bet some Celtic players they couldn't score in double figures against the Bermuda Team (then bet heavily at the Rec that Celtic would do just that). Final score 10-1, and guess who scored Bermuda's sole goal, dribbling past 3 or 4 Celtic players and crashing the ball in the back of the net. You got it! Our Jimmy.

Van Beelen or however you spell it was an associate member of the St. George PRC et al.He was a construction superintendant for Gringley Construction many years ago.It's coming back.....hang on......Case/Kase Vanbeelan......Great guy his family still own and live in the old homestead just below where George Rose and Perry Fox live in St. Davids.That's it. I need a bear. It's 8 degrees so you all can kiss my can of bear.....

My word that brings back memories, although they are not very clear. I’m in the team but not sure what happened to the others - was it 9 a side? (Assuming those not in kit are spectators).I can name most on here -though not all - but will refrain in case someone else may want a try. I can think of one who will !
