This is the first time we have featured a cartoon rather than a photo in our Who, When and Where column.
We actually knew from the outset who this is, but we wanted to jog a few memories, particularly amongst those of our colleagues who are rather "long in the tooth"!
Believe it or not, the cartoon itself is believed to have been drawn by *Giles, the world famous cartoonist for the Daily Express who spent some time in Bermuda in the mid 1950's and offered to draw cartoons of the members of the Bermuda Barbarians rugby club (for ten pounds per drawing - what a bargain!) which we understand was made up of police officers and members of BAA and some teachers.

We were kindly supplied with the cartoon by Pip's wife, Diane "Dee" who has fond memories of their years here in Bermuda which is also where their first son, Peter, was born. Dee has been in touch with us several times after seeing articles on the website, and she has also kindly provided us with more information about Pip which we have now published in our Hall of Fame. CLICK HERE for the article about Peter "Pip" Carter who was clearly an unforgetable character.
And just to prove that he was indeed a "Barbarian" please see his Membership Card for the 1956 - 1957 rugby season posted below.

We would appreciate more information about the Barbarians; when the club started and who was in it.
* Davie Kerr has raised the issue of whether or not the cartoon of Pip Carter was the work of Giles who had a very distinctive signature on his cartoons. After further research we now believe that the cartoon was actually drawn by Stanley McMurty who was also a world famous cartoonist with the Daily Mail and always signed his cartoons with the initials "MAC". Many thanks to Davie for pointing this out.
