We asked if you could help us to identify these sports "stars" wearing stripes?! We wanted to know the names of everyone in the photo, including non-players. What striped strip were they wearing? We were fairly sure where the photo was taken, but wanted to know either the date or the occasion? As you can see below we provided you with two blow-ups to make ID a little easier for those whose eyesight isn't quite what it used to be!
We also ran this photo on our ExPo Facebook page and received over 20 comments about who was who, and where and when the team was playing. Through a "group" effort we had most of the players identified, but with several players being given more than one possible name!
With special thanks to Dave Cooper, who was managing the Police team with Tom Cassin, here is the definitive list of our team and the tournament they were playing in:-
Top row - Ernie McCreight, Robert Goodchild, Kevin Rock, Jim McKirdy, Peter Lee
Middle row - Tom Cassin, Dave Cooper, Alan Cleave, Glyn Brown, Mike Shaw, Andy Boyce, Johnny Bean, Jon Beard, and ACOP Clive Donald.
Front row - Neil Topping, Wayne Pimental, Erskine “Cho” Smith, Doug Docherty, and Tony Mouchette.
They were playing in a Round Robin tournament held in 1982 at PHC in Warwick involving the Police, Bermuda Regiment, Combined Services, and the Jamaica Defence Force. Mike Shaw has explained that this was a Police team comprising police players from local clubs as well as our regular PRC players. Just to be clear, the above photo of our Police team was taken on the PRC patio, but all the matches were played at PHC in Warwick. Thanks to everyone who helped in providing all the answers - except one! No-one seems to remember exactly why our Police team chose this striped strip.
