Tom Smith

We were deeply saddened to hear that our good friend Tom Smith died this last Thursday 28th November 2019 at the age of 90.  Tom was a giant of a man in more ways than one.  He was an outstanding rugby player as a member of Teachers Rugby Club, and he went on to be actively involved in the rugby scene for decades in many capacities including as a referee,  as President of the Bermuda Rugby Football Union, and  as Chef de Mission when our Bermuda team went to Martinique  in 1977 to play in the Caribbean Championship for the first time - a highly successful tour with Bermuda winning the championship.

An extremely popular man, Tom and his wife Morag have been great supporters of rugby in Bermuda, and we know that literally anyone who has ever played rugby for our Police Team will have fond memories of both Tom and Morag. Tom was a long term member of the Police Recreation Club and was Dave Chew's lunchtime tennis partner!   How many of us can still picture Tom riding around the Island every day on his scooter?!

We extend our sincere condolences to Morag, to their daughter, Fiona in Australia, their son Ashley in England, and to all of their family around the world.

We do not as yet have any funeral details but you can view Tom's obituary and write any comments in the Royal Gazette at https://www.legacy.com/guestbooks/theroyalgazette/thomas-william-smith-condolences/194597338?cid=full
