We have just received confirmation that our good friend and former colleague, Malcolm Edwards, passed away in Austraila on Tuesday 13th Decemeber 2016.
Malcolm had previously served in the Birmingham City Police before joining the Bermuda Police in March 1971. He served in Central Division (Uniform), Mobile Reserve, Operations (Cycle Squad), and in CID, and was an active member of the Police hockey team. He met and married his wife Margaret (Maggie) while on Island, and they left Bermuda and returned to the UK in July 1974.
We heard of Malcolm's passing, after a long illness, from (Les) Paul Brown and his wife Heather who had remained in contact with Malcolm and Maggie over the years.
After leaving Bermuda in 1974, Malcolm and Maggie, who was a nurse at King Edward Hospital, went to New Zealand where Malcolm joined the National Police Service. They moved to Perth in Western Australia in the mid 1980's where they settled with their children, Martin and Michelle.
Sadly, Malcolm developed cancer and decided to move back to the U.K for treatment, but this was unsuccessful and he got progressively worse. He and Maggie moved back to Perth last April to live out his final days. Malcolm never gave up the battle but he had been bedridden, weak and semi-conscious over the last 3 weeks. He died last Tuesday evening surrounded by his family.
There will be a memorial service in early January at Knowbury, Ludlow in England, as Malcolm requested at the village church, followed by drinks at a local pub. We will publish details as we receive them.
Maggie plans to return to England after Christmas, and we have her present address in Western Australia if anyone wishes to contact her.
We offer sincere condolences to Maggie, Martin, Michelle and their family.
