Alan and Gillian Cleave
Alan joined the Bermuda Police back in 1975 and retired as Chief Inspector in 2008 after which he worked at the Bermuda Monetary Authority until he and Gillian decided to return to the U.K. with their two daughters in 2010. Alan says, “After renting accommodation we purchased our current home in Exminster in Devon, Exminster being a small village just outside Exeter. Since that time we really have retired from work – the only hair that Gill now cuts is mine. I spend a lot of time trying to perfect my golf game but that doesn’t seem to have worked. I play off an 8 handicap at the Exeter Golf & Country Club. Editors note – how many of us would give our eye-teeth to have a single digit handicap! Alan was always an outstanding athlete who played football, and was actively involved with the Police running group.
Alan also wrote to say, “I have taken the volunteer post of treasurer of the club’s golf section and I am also a volunteer trustee at the Exeter Gym Club where Morgan trains.
“Gill spends a lot of time doing volunteer work for the Exeter Gym Club in the form of cooking cakes and other goodies for sale in the tuck shop. However, we can only do these things after spending an hour or two daily exercising our dog Paget who seems to be the top dog in the family. Paget is a new addition to our family and is a 'Welsh' Hungarian Vizsla who we had to travel to Wales three times to get her.”
Alan and Gill would be very happy to see any old friends and colleagues who are visiting Devon.
'Paget' - Pride of the Cleave Family
Alan sent us these photos including one of Gill and their two daughters Taylor and Morgan, taken after lunch at the Fisherman’s Cot in Tiverton. The bridge in the background is said to be the inspiration for the song, “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
