We just received the sad news that one of our old friends and colleagues, former P.C. Peter Blogg, who served in the Bermuda Police from 30th September 1970 to 14th April 1977, died a few months ago in Ghana.
Peter had served in the Northumberland Constabulary from 1963 until he came to Bermuda, where he served in Central Division, Hamilton, from 1970-1974, including a spell on Mobile Reserve, then in Operations (Cycle Squad) from 1974-1976, before returning to Central Division for his last 6 months before leaving Bermuda. We understand that after leaving here he took up various roles and training for qualifications in languages. He spent some time in London, and a few years ago he moved to Ghana where he taught Maths and Science subjects to local children.
Peter was taken ill and died on 24th July 2015, at the age of 71, in Akwe Hospital in Korle-bu and was later buried in Ghana.
News of Peter's passing was initially received through the Northumbria Police Retirees website, and was also published in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
Anyone who knew Peter will know that he was an unforgettable character - a Geordie through and through - and as one old friend says about him, "If ever there was a person who danced to the beat of a different drum ......"!
We understand that Peter never married and had a brother, Ian, who lives in Australia to whom we have sent sincere condolences through the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
The obituary notice published in the Chronicle requested that old friends and colleagues "raise a glass in memory of a one-off" It's more than likely that one of his old friends, Billy Butterworth, who came out to Bermuda on the same day as Peter, will do exactly that up at the Police Recreation Club on Thursday at the weekly gathering.

Editors note - The first photo we used in this article was Peter's warrant card photo from 1970, and looked far too severe for "Boggy". Ken Van Thal wrote to say that he had a photo of "Bloggy" as those who knew him would remember him. We received the above photo from Ken on 20th February 2016 and immnediately decided that he was right!
