Sergeant Alex Arnfield
We are deeply saddened to share the news that our good friend and former colleague, retired Sergeant Alex Arnfield has passed away. We learned the news yesterday, Thursday 13th March 2025 but have not yet been able to confirm the details. We will publish more information as soon as we receive it.
Alex joined the Bermuda Police in 1968 after serving as a Cadet and then as a P.C. in the Manchester City Police from 1963-1968.
His first posting was to Western Division (Somerset) followed by spells in Central Division (Hamilton) and Operations (Traffic). Alex was posted to Marine Section in June 1970 and spent most of the next 7 years there. He went on to serve in “E” Department, C.I.D., and Narcotics where he was promoted to Sergeant, and served in both Eastern Division (Uniform) and Central Division, before retiring from the BPS in 1993.
By coincidence, just a few days ago we posted this photo of Alex together with two of his former colleagues from Narcotics, George Rose and Sean Field. They were having coffee together at Miles and were chatting about the “good old days”.

You can read more about Alex and his reminiscinces of serving in the BPS in an article written in 2023 and published on our ExPo website in our “Then and Now” column. CLICK HERE for the article which is headed, “Graham Maddocks and Alex Arnfield”
We offer our sincere condolences to Alex’s wife, Margaret and his daughter Katherine, and will publish more details as soon as we receive them.
