We have been in touch with our old friend, retired Inspector John “Coco” Eve, who recently received treatment at University Hospital in Stoke for quite a serious operation requiring him to be admitted for just over two weeks. John has written to say he’s now home and starting his recuperation and he expects to be fit for another “All Stars” gathering before the end of the year.
All too often these days we hear negative stories about the UK health care system, so it was very uplifting reading Coco’s account of the care he received at the hospital. To quote him directly, “I couldn’t praise nurses and staff more; got to know many of them being in two different wards and all were devoted to their profession. Besides locals I have met people from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Ukraine, Kenya and some I have probably forgotten. Without exception they were taking courses at Keele University which has a huge reputation for hospital teaching.”
“Besides these wonderful people I have met some patients whose strength of character and humour made my time far easier.”
“My surgeons I can only describe as artistes. The operation was 12 hours long and they performed miracles. Consultants Bisari and Opostolou have my life long thanks and are so human without any arrogance.”
It’s wonderful to hear that our Coco received such excellent care, and I know that we all wish him a speedy and complete recovey. One thing for sure, Coco's first class treatment will continue at home with the loving care he receives from Kath.
