Young Sinclair White
We are deeply saddened to hear that our good friend and former colleague, retired Superintendent Sinclair White has passed away at the age of 72 after being seriously ill in recent months.
Sinclair joined the Bermuda Police at the age of 22 in October 1973, and after attending Basic Training Course # 17 he was posted to Central Division (Hamilton). After a year in uniform Sinclair was transferred to C.I.D. in March 1975 and was attached to the Murder Room. He had in-service training in several departments including “F” Department (Training School) and “E” Department (Travel Control) , and in 1987 he was promoted to Sergeant while serving in Training School.
In 1988 he was assigned to Operations (Traffic) and later that year he returned to “F” Department until his promotion to Inspector in 1991 at which time he became a Watch Inspector (on “D” Watch) in Hamilton.
Sinclair was appointed as ADC to the Premier in 1992 and this was followed by secondments to several departments until he transferred to Central Division Uniform in 1995 as Acting Chief Inspector. The following year he was appointed as OIC of the Major Incident Room and promoted to Chief Inspector. In October of that year he took over responsibility for Complaints and Discipline.
Sinclair was described by then ACOP Jean-Jacques Lemay as a very capable and ambitious senior officer who was providing a high level of service to the Police Service and the people of Bermuda.
A popular and well-liked officer, Sinclair retired at the rank of Superintendent in October 2011.
We offer our sincere condolences to Sinclair’s family, and will further report on funeral details as soon as they are arranged.
