REMEMBERING NICKNAMES
As anyone who ever served in the Bermuda Police Force will be aware, it wasn't long before most of us acquired nicknames, usually bestowed on us by our fellow Bermudian officers. Even in this day and age the obituary column in the Royal Gazette will include nicknames because otherwise half the population may not realize that someone has died just by reading their real names.
We are in the process of starting a compilation of nicknames of officers who served in the Bermuda Police and we invite you to participate by submitting the nicknames you remember to us at info@expobermuda.com
Just a few examples come to mind.
Bob "The Pudsey Wonder" or "Pudsey" Hay
Eddie "Boxhead" Foggo
Hilton "Jellybean" Wingood
John "Coco" Eve
Clive "Fury" Donald
Carlton "Socky" Adams
Clyde "Tango" Burgess
Sinclair "Brinky" Tucker
Alex "Punchy" Forbes
Davie "Scruff" or "Cookie Monster" or "Animal" or "The Mars Bar Kid" Kerr!
Howard "Stumpy" Kirkham
Ian "Abey" Mitchell
David "Bones" Fraser
Gladwin "Dock" Hall
Charlie "Bongo" Williams
Bryn "The Arboretum Ghost" Jones
Gerry "Backslide" Malloy and the list goes on!
We would also be interested to know the reason or reasons for these nicknames, if you can recall them. We look forward to hearing from you.
