One of the subjects to be discussed at our AGM on 12th April is the issue of having a representative of the Bermuda Ex-Police Officers Association sit on the Bermuda Police Association whenever pay negotiations are likely to have an impact on members of our Association. This issue came to light last year when the Police Association was deciding whether or not to accept a pay deal being offered by Government.
Part of Government’s “Take it or Leave it offer” was that “Comall” would be included in pensionable salary as of 1st January 2010, rather than being back-dated to 2005 at which time Justice Ian Kawaley had ruled in favour of “Comall” being included in the pay settlement then under negotiation.
The result of Government’s 2011 offer being accepted was that approximately 30 police officers who had retired between 2005 and 2011 did not have the “Comall” portion of their salaries included in their pensions.
Retired Sergeant Russell Matthew has brought this matter to our attention (CLICK HERE for an explanatory report by Russell) and we will be discussing it at the AGM.
If you are one of the persons affected by this matter we would urge you to attend our meeting, or to please write to info@ expobermuda.com and let us have your views.
