John Rawson
We were deeply saddened to receive news from Anne Rawson that her husband, John, died at their home on 23rd July 2021, after several years of ill health. Although he had been undergoing extensive treatment he was able to spend the last 3 weeks at home with his family. Anne assured us that all the memories of Bermuda were happy and that reminiscing about their time here was always great fun.
John Rawson joined the Bermuda Police in 1962, after previously serving in the Nottingham City Police. On arrival here John made an immediate impact as one of the finest ever rugby players to don the Police blues. A brilliant fly half, he was a born leader on the rugby field and captained the Police Rugby team when they won the Nicol Shield in 1965.
John was first posted to Central Division, Hamilton, and spent time as an Aide to C.I.D. before being transferred to Operations (Traffic). He was also seconded to Training School as a P.E. Instructor.
John met his future wife, Anne, who was a nurse at KEMH, and the two married here in April 1965. On completion of his 3 year contract, John and Anne decided to return to England where John re-joined the Nottingham City Police where he served until retirement in 1991. We offer our sincere condolences to Anne, their two daughters, Sue and Kate and to all their family.
