Mrs Winnie Childs with George Rose
We regret to announce the passing of Mrs Doris Winifred "Winne" Childs at the grand old age of 107.
Doris was the wife of the Late Sergeant Arthur Childs who served in the Bermuda Police from 1935 -1950. Arthur was a former boxer in the British milirary prior ro coming to Bermuda to join the Police Force and he became a legendary boxing champion here in Bermuda. George Rose wrote an excellent biography about Arthur for our "Hall of Fame" column. CLICK HERE for this Hall of Fame article on our ExPo website at along with a follow-up article about Arthur. While researching for the article George discovered that much to our surprise Arthur's widow, Winnie Childs, was still alive and resiging at Westmeath Rest Home in Pembroke. George visited Winnie, who was then over 100 years old, at the Home and she was delighted to talk about her husband who died back in 1969.
A private graveside service will be held at 3pm on Friday, May 7th, 2021 at St. John's Church, Pembroke.
We extend our sincere condolences to Winnie's family.
