Pin-up of the Season!

This is probably the one and only time we will ever publish a "pin-up" girl on our website but we re-discovered this charming photo of a lovely young lady  from a few years ago.   We wondered how many could recall who the young lady is,  who took the photo,  and where and when it was first published.  We were also hoping to hear from our young model and catch up on where she and her family members are these days.

We have indeed heard from the young lady who is Maureen Sheehy, daughter of John Joe Sheehy.  Maureen was 5 years old at the time. The photo was taken by Police photographer Mike Woods who himself was a unique character!  Mike worked in CRO at a time when their office was on the ground floor of Police HQ.  Those who knew Mike may recall that if he happened to see Commissioner George Robins arriving at headquarters in the morning, Mike would rush outside wearing his blue lab coat, stand at the main entrance to the building, and as the Commissioner walked up the steps Mike would whip up a salute with military precision and bellow out,  "Good morning SIR. Police Headquarters ready for your inspection!"  Anyone else would have been fired!

The photo was published in the Summer 1965 edition of the Police magazine, and we have reproduced the full page below.  Great to hear that Maureen is well and that she plans to visit Bermuda in July/August this year.  She now lives in Texas as does her sister,  Kate, while their brother Michael still lives here in Bermuda and works at Flanagan's Pub on Front Street.  See photos below.

We're not sure if Maureen ever realized her ambition of becoming at engine driver!

Maureen Sheehy Brichetto

As you can see from the comment section below, Maureen got in touch with us after being totally surprised to find her pin-up photo on our front page.  Maureen now lives in Texas and has four children  - Ryan 28, a fulltime pastor currently working in Mexico who is  married with 4 children,   Danielle 25, a Registered Nurse  with Baylor and the proud mother of triplets,  Sean 23, an IT Manager with Amazon Web Services (Genius per himself), and Lordan 10, who Maureen describes as the most amazing kid on the planet.

Kate Sheehy

Kate also lives in Texas and has three sons, John  22, Matthew  20, and Michael who is almost 17.

We have also heard from Mike Sheehy who brought us up to date on what has happened in his life since he left Bermuda with his parents and family in 1986.

"After moving to Texas in 1986 I attended the University of Houston with the hopes of returning to Bermuda someday with a Hospitality degree. I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1988 and Served during Desert Storm 1.

I began working at an Outback Steakhouse as a Server and rose through the ranks to Managing Partner of my own store. After 14 years with Outback I decided it was time to return to the Island. I took an opportunity with The Fairmont Southampton Princess and began anew in Bermuda.

During my time at Fairmont I met many of the Security personnel who were former Bermuda Police Officers. They all told me of the high regard they had for my father which was truly touching.

Currently I am a Manager at Bermuda's only Irish Pub and Restaurant, Flanagans Irish Pub on Front Street in Hamilton. Where else would a Sheehy turn up!

Hi Maureen: You probably don't remember me but you were my flower girl when Pietro and I were married in 1968. I think you were about 7. Your father gave me away as my own father has passed away and your father was a good friend as I met him on the plane when I first came to Bermuda. I also babysat you and your sister Kate. It is our 50th Anniversary this year and we are celebrating in Bermuda. Would you like to come?? It's been a long time. I found this page while looking through the police site for another friend. What luck.

Editors note - Many thanks for writing Jacqui. Lovely to read how you have made this connection with Maureen through our website after all these years. I will make sure to pass your comment on to Maureen and will give her your email address. Let us know who was the other person who were looking for and I will see if we can assist you.

Mark, you'll probably not remember me, but your Dad was one of my Sgts back in the '70s (please give him my regards) and I was your sailing instructor on Outward Bound. I'm coming back to visit Bermuda in Sep '14: does that coincide with your planned visit?

Editors note - Mark, I missed the fact that you are coming out to Bermuda this year. Can you please let us know when you will be here. I would also draw your attention to an article called "At Home on Alexandra Road" under Interesting Articles. It would be great to have you and your father write to us about your collective memories of living at the police housing at Prospect, your neighbours and childhood friends etc. We would also be interested in any photos of the neighbourhood from your childhood.

Great to see Maureen, Katie and Michael after all these years. The Sheehy's house was my second home and Mike was one of my best friends until I left Bda in 1982.I still think of and remember all of you fondly. I'm planning a return to Bda with my wife and kids in the summer of 2014 so will look Mike up if he's still at Flanigans. What a great site, well done. Mark

Roger - A link to my Facebook page for anyone who uses social media to stay connected. It's been one of the only ways to keep up with my Bermuda friends all these years. Gertie Barker is on Facebook too.

Roger - The picture was published in the Police Magazine. I believe it was the cover? Not positive though. I was born in 1960, so I'd say around 67 - 69. I don't recall who took the picture, but it seems to me that it was a police photographer. He was a policeman, that I remember. Mom was so excited about the whole thing!

I plan on being in BDA the last 2 weeks of July and may stay until August 11. I would love to attend the BBQ if the timing works out. My brother Mike lives in the island and I'm sure he'd love to go also. He's a manager at Flanagan's Irish Pub in Hamilton.

Please feel free to pass along my email to anyone who asks for it. I am in contact with several people from BDA on Facebook also. Peter Hebberd is one of the old Prospect crew that I've kept up with thru Facebook, and then Cliona and Aine Sheehan also.

Big Hello to all of Daddy's friends and associates. We miss he and mom SOOOO much!

Editors note - Hi Maureen. You are fairly close re the date. It was the Summer 1965 issue and you were just 5 years old at the time. Yes, it was a police officer who took the photo. For more information about who took it and to see exactly what was published in the Police Magazine please check this article.

Will see what we can do about organizing the BBQ while you are here.

 What a surprise it was to see this picture! I remember the day it was taken at Admiralty House Beach (like it was yesterday). I think I was 8? I've visited your site several times. Love it!! Sad to see so many old photos of daddy and many of his old friends, but so it is. I live in Dallas, but will be visiting Bermuda this summer for the first time in years. I cannot wait!! Please connect with me on Facebook if you're a fan of social media - Maureen Sheehy Brichetto. Does anyone know if George Rose still lives in the island? Take care everyone and thanks for sharing this very old shot of me.

Editors note - Great to hear from Maureen who, of course, was the lovely young model photographed at Admiralty House beach. Maureen, can you remember who took the photo and when and where it was published? We will soon publish the full page.

Yes, George Rose is still living here in Bermuda, or rather, down in St. David's Island. Will let him know you are enquiring.

We will be holding our annual BBQ this summer so please let us know when you are here and we would hope to have you attend.

Well it can't be your wife.
(bless her);
Me thinks you are already in contact with her or else you would have not made the statement "hoping to hear".
Roger, your some chiel as they say bak ah than.....

Editors note - You're correct on one point Terry. It;'s not my wife, but wrong on the other. I have no idea where the young lady is, but someone close to her recently wrote a comment on our website. Try to utilize your detective skills to figure out who it is.
