Passing of Tony Harper

P.C. Anthony "Tony" Harper

We were deeply saddened to read in today’s Royal Gazette about the death of Tony Harper on 17th April after an extended illness. (CLICK HERE for Royal Gazette obituary)

Tony served in the Bermuda Police from August 1960 to August 1966 before leaving the Police to take up a teaching post at Warwick Academy. Whilst in the Police he first worked in Hamilton but spent most of his police service in Operations (Traffic).

Tony was a very popular officer who was best known for his tremendous athletic ability. He and Jeff Payne represented the Bermuda Police in Caribbean competition in various distance running events, and they both took part in the Commonwealth Games and in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico, with Tony competing in the 400 metre hurdles.

We express sincere condolences to his wife Angela, and their two boys, Iain and Michael. We hope to contact Angela and have the family assist with an article in our Hall of Fame.

30th April 2013  -   As a follow-up, the Royal Gazette published a very touching tribute to Tony in today's newspaper (CLICK HERE for article) headed "Bermuda Olympian Harper dies at age of 74".
