The Royal Gazette has reported in last Saturday's newspaper  that the Bermuda Police Association is “very concerned” over the discovery of asbestos in a police building"

The Police have announced the Criminal Records Office was temporarily closed after material containing asbestos was found in files in a cabinet. It forced the immediate halt to vetting requests in areas including employment and immigration.

Andrew Harewood, Chairman of the BPA, said: “Obviously our main concern is that of the health of our members.”

The building is located at police headquarters in Prospect, Devonshire.

A police spokesman said the move was made “out of an abundance of caution” after tests showed asbestos was present.  The spokesman added: “The safety, health and wellbeing of our staff, and that of the public, remains a main priority for the BPS.”

I seem to recall that the main asbestos concerns were with the "new" barracks blocks of Macbeath, Stourton and Henderson....

Any luck in your enquiries?

I stated that I saw it on the Bermuda Police Official site.
That was never printed here (my comment).
Shalom.

Editors note - Good question Terry. I've been in touch Andrew Harewood who said he would get back to me but I havn't heard any more from him as yet. Will follow-up with him.

I saw a photo of some people on a driving course or something; whether it was Bernews or the RG can't remember.

The buildings roof is all asbestos ……..

Editors note - Not sure which photo you are referring to Terry or which roof are you referring to. Is it the old main Police HQ building which housed CRO when I first came to Bermuda in the 1960's or the tin shed type building immediately behind HQ where I think records were kept a few years later. Thanks for raising the issue. Will make some enquiries to see if we can confirm which building it is a Prospect.
