We just came across a fascinating article in the Australian Daily Telegraph  dated 13th August 2016 about former P.C. Philip Bermingham who served here in the Bermuda Police from July 1972 – January 1979.

Phil came to Bermuda after serving for 3 years in the Liverpool City Police.  While here he served in Central (Uniform) in the Murder Room, and was then transferred to the Criminal Records Officer in September 1973 where he took up photography.  Phil spent the next 6 years as a police photographer and I think it would be fair to say that his time in CRO marked a major turning point in his life.

After leaving Bermuda Phil opened a photographic studio in Washington DC and has established an international reputation as a first class photographer who has been commissioned to photograph numerous luminaries including American Presidents, British diplomats, and even Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh with President George Bush Snr and First Lady Barbara Bush.

Phil describes his visit to Australia as a fascinating trip but he was disappointed not to be able to get together with his old buddies such as Sid Gordon and Dave Inwood.

In his spare time Phil is a keen golfer who still loves to return to Bermuda. He  visited the Island last year and  enjoyed a round at the now closed Riddell’s Bay Golf Club with a group of  his ExPo colleagues.   He is hoping to return next summer and will no doubt be looking to hit the links.
