P.C.Colin MacDonald circa 1971

We have just received belated news that former P.C. Colin MacDonald died 2 years ago on 19th December 2014.

Colin came out to join the Bermuda Police in March 1971 after having served in the Birmingham,City Police for 2 years as a Cadet and 5 years as a Constable. While in Bermuda he worked in Central (Uniform), on Mobile Reserve,  Murder Squad, and in both Western CID and Central CID.

Colin was an excellent rugby player at a time when our Police team was very much in the ascendancy.  He was here at the time of the murder of Commissioner George Duckett who was a keen supporter of our rugby team,  and along with David "Dai" Thomas,  Colin spearheaded a campaign to raise funds for the purchase of the Duckett Memorial Shield to be played for annually between the Police Team and the Pick of Bermuda..  He was also a member of the Police team that won the Duckett Shield final in its first year on 4th February 1973.   You can view an article about the Duckett Memorial Shield, including a photo of Colin receiving the newly created trophy from the designer, Mr. Jim Kempe, at http://expobermuda.com/index.php/who-when-where/348-historic-ruby-phot

He resigned and left Bermuda November 1973.

We learned of Colin's passing after his wife, Jan, recently wrote to a Christmas card to Moby Pett,  not realizing that no-one in Bermuda was aware that he died 2 years ago.
