A SPECIAL (BRANCH) PHOTO

We came into possession of this photo a few months ago,  and wondered how long it would take to identify all those present, in view of the fact that their names might have been classified!   We were having trohble identifing  the young lady between Peter Stubbs and Lennie Edwards, but Peter's memory cells kicked in and he was able to provide us with her name as listed below.   It is, of course a photograph of Special Branch taken circa 1974 outside the Police Recreation Club.  Many thanks to all those who assisted.

Special Branch circa 1974

Quoting Colin Mackenzie:
Because Davy was too useful elsewhere, and besides, SB couldn't afford the ice cream for him! Ooops, sorry, Dave, had to get that in there. And, yes, Dave, you are right...it is Mackenzie, not McKenzie.

Editors note - You could have substituted Mars bars for ice cream Colin! I think someone else spelt your name wrong but will check to correct it wherever possible. Stay warm!

Irony.

Quoting Davie Kerr:
Actually I wasn't too bad with a .38 in my time, which admittedly would have been last century!
And I suspect that more people would remember me as a Radio Op than as a driver, apart from a certain sentry box?

Editors Note - Davie and the GH sentry box are part of the rich history of the BPS!! Not sure if the story is here on the web, but if not it should be.

Reminds me of one night I was at GH and went on foot patrol around the grounds (flashlight and truncheon)
Howard Kirkham was duty driver and brought Sgt. Sanders up to check if I was still alive ( I did call in on my 1923 Motarolla )
Stumps decides to hide up in a palm tree opposite the Guard House.

After I made my round I returned and heard a rustle in the trees.
I turned on the trusty $1.25 light and illuminated him. He laughed so hard he fell at least 10 feet to the gravel that was there.

RIP Stumpy.

Quoting Davie Kerr:
I'm presently in contact with Dave Cann (now Dave du Cann)and I think Steve Petty's among my Facebook contacts: I'll e-mail you details.
And I was never asked to work in SB, possibly because of a certain pair of rubber-soled shoes! Tim Willis did ask me once to consider joining the armed Protection Squad, but I'd just landed the Summons Server's job (where I was happy as pig in poop) and politely declined his offer.

Davie with a gun. Man I need a rum after that one.

Editors note - How many of you recall Davie in Traffic - with a patrol car?!!!

The irony is, many years ago before half these doods got clearance/Clare nce...Edna would not even let people up the stairs.
How many remember her.

And could the lady front centre be Maureen Connor?

Quoting John Graham:
The unknown in the back row is Steve Bond.

Editors note - Many thanks John. That just leaves the one secretary seated between Peter Stubbs and Kennie Edwards. We have no contact details for Steve Bond.

Well Peter will never tell. As for Kennie

That was his code name. How the hell you find that out Roger.

Where the hell is MI when we need them.

Editors note - Re Peter never telling; it was Peter who kindly provided the photo, and he was waiting for others to try to remember the names!
