We have been contacted this week by George and Anita Bullas from Canada who have just returned to the Island for the first time in many years, and they are enquiring about a half-cousin of George  by the name of John Mitychell Brown who served here in the Bermuda Police and rose to the rank of Inspector before leaving the Force to work for the Bank of Bermuda.

John and his wife Helen lived in Paget,  and Helen worked in a jewellery store opposite the Bank of Bermuda on Front Street. it's believed that they  left here in the mid-1960's to return to John's home country of Scotland, They were both buried in Ellon Cemetery in Scotland.  George is seeking more information about his cousin  and would be delighted to speak with anyone who knew John and Helen while they were living here in Bermuda. George has also been checking through the Blue Books contained in the Government Archives and discovered that John was 30 years old when he joined the Bermuda Police and had probably served as a policeman in Scotland before coming here.

Our own records indicate that George served here from 1st November 1932 - 4th June 1957 and was an Inspector when he resigned, but unfortunately he is not included in the Police Registers at Prospect so we have very little additional information about  Insoector John Brown.

However, by coincidence I just received a box of envelopes containing old photos and negatives from Howard Cutts and one of the last envelopes I opened was this photo of members of the Police Team that won the Bermuda  ‘A’ League Billiards Championship in 1940 -  and the last name is Constable J.M. Brown.

If anyone can assist in providing information about John and Helen, the Bullas's  are here just until Friday of this week, but I have George's email address and would be happy to forward any information to him.
